The International Automotive Task Force (IATF) has identified one of the most widely used international quality management standards in the automotive industry, ISO/TS16949, as the new global industry standard.

   As a technical specification for quality management system in the automotive industry, ISO/TS16949 was first formulated in 1999 by IATF and ISO Quality Management Technical Committee ISO/TC176. Since then it has become one of the most widely used international standards in the automotive industry and has worked to harmonize the different review and certification systems in the global automotive supply chain.

  In October 2016, IATF16949:2016, released by IATF, surpassed and replaced the ISO/TS16949 standard, and clarified the quality management system requirements of various organizations in the automotive industry. The new standard references and is consistent with the latest ISO quality management system standard ISO9001:2005. IATF16949:2016 will fully comply with the structure and requirements of the ISO9001:2015 standard. IATF16949:2016 is not a separate quality management standard, but is implemented and integrated as a complement to ISO9001:2015.

  IATF16949 will continue to work closely with ISO by participating in ISO/TC176 to ensure its conformance with ISO9001 standard.
