Six important changes to the ISO 14001:2015 FDIS edition of the standard:
The ISO 14001:2015 FDIS (final draft version) standard was officially announced on July 2, 2015. The long-awaited ISO 14001:2015 final standard will be released on September 16 this year as scheduled, which will play a role in global environmental management. epoch-making significance.
During this revision, the ISO 14001:2015 Revision Subcommittee (ISO/TC 207/SC 1) is responsible for:
1. Import the "Appendix SL" structure into ISO 14001:2015, "Appendix SL" is the structure that all newly published standards and revised standards must adopt, so ISO/FDIS 14001 also adopts this structure;
2. Comprehensively consider the ISO report on "Future Challenges of Environmental Management Systems" and the results of the ISO 14001 continuous improvement survey;
3. Maintain and improve the principles and requirements of the current ISO 14001 standard.
The following six changes will be brought about by this revision:
1. Strategic Environmental Management
2. Emphasize leadership
3. Emphasize policy change from prevention to protection
4. Improve environmental performance
5. Use life cycle thinking
6. Strengthen internal and external communication
【Strategic Environmental Management】
New requirements are placed on the scope of the organization when determining what is internal and external to the organization and the environment. Particular attention is paid to the needs and expectations of stakeholders interacting with the organization. In this case, the organization should identify risks associated with threats and opportunities, significant environmental factors and compliance responsibilities, and thereby determine relevant actions within the quality management system to address the risks.
[emphasis on leadership]
A new clause has been added: An organization's top management is responsible for demonstrating leadership in delivering on its environmental stewardship commitments.
[emphasis on policy changes from prevention to protection]
Environmental policy should include a commitment to "environmental protection". Environmental protection includes "pollution prevention" and other related commitments, such as sustainable resource use, climate change mitigation and adaptation, and conservation of biodiversity and ecosystems.
【Improve environmental performance】
Emphasis is placed on improving management performance related to environmental factors. Organizations should formulate appropriate standards and use appropriate indicators to evaluate environmental performance. Combined with the organization's strategic environment, it should comprehensively consider strategic environmental performance, management performance and operational performance.
【Using life cycle thinking】
Organizations need to manage and control the environmental impact of the wider value chain from the acquisition of raw materials, the production of products, to the disposal and final disposal of products after use, as far as possible, but this does not mean that a life cycle assessment is required.
【Strengthen internal and external communication】
Emphasis on internal and external information exchange. The organization's discretion over external communications is reserved, but its compliance responsibilities should be considered.
